Why We Don’t Offer Laser Treatments
Laser resurfacing can be genuinely effective, in the right hands, for the right skin. We’re not here to tell you it doesn’t work. But it has a risk profile we’re not comfortable with as the default option for a general Worthing clinic seeing a wide range of skin tones and concerns.
The clearest issue is pigmentation risk in darker skin types. Current dermatology guidance is consistent on this: patients with Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI face a meaningfully higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation and, in some cases, scarring after ablative and fractional laser resurfacing. Some specialists advise avoiding ablative lasers in the darkest skin types altogether. Managing that risk safely requires very specific settings, experience and aftercare protocols — and even then, the risk doesn’t disappear.
There’s also the practical reality of downtime, cost of the equipment, and the fact that much of what laser resurfacing achieves — collagen stimulation, improved texture, reduced pigmentation — can be reached through non-thermal, regenerative approaches with a gentler safety and downtime profile across all skin tones.
Our position isn’t that laser is unsafe. It’s that we’ve chosen to build our clinic around treatments that give comparable results with a safety profile we’re comfortable offering to every skin tone that walks through our door, without needing to turn patients away or heavily caveat what we can safely do for them.
