← Back to Skin Planning for Life’s Moments

By Dr Amber Halliday, MRCGP MBBS BSc (Hons) | Blue Bird Aesthetics, Worthing

Summer changes what’s sensible for your skin — more sun exposure means some treatments need to be timed carefully, or paused altogether until autumn.

What People Usually Notice

Pigmentation, dehydration and increased sensitivity are the concerns we see most through the summer months, particularly in skin that’s more sun-exposed than usual.

Suggested Timeline

Early summer: hydration, antioxidant support, sun-safe skincare →
Mid-summer: gentle treatments only →
Late summer: plan ahead for autumn treatments →
Anytime: LED and skin boosters remain safe

Treatment Options We May Discuss

Safety & Suitability

Certain resurfacing treatments and microneedling increase photosensitivity and need to be timed carefully around sun exposure — sometimes that means waiting until autumn for the best and safest results, which we’ll always be upfront about.

What NOT to Do During High Sun Exposure

Some treatments simply aren’t appropriate during periods of strong UV exposure. We avoid anything that risks pigmentation, irritation or increased sensitivity — including deeper peels, active resurfacing and microneedling too close to holidays or outdoor events.
Your plan will always prioritise safety, predictable healing and long-term skin health.

If Your Skin Is Already Pigmented or Sensitive

Even if you’re dealing with pigmentation, dehydration or irritation, there are still safe, gentle options that support hydration and calm the skin without increasing sun sensitivity.
Bring your current routine to the consultation and we’ll tailor a summer-safe plan around it — no pressure, no set menu.

Makeup-Friendly Summer Skin Prep

Heat and humidity can make makeup sit differently on the skin. We focus on treatments and skincare that improve hydration, reduce patchiness and support a smoother surface — avoiding anything that risks peeling or increased sensitivity during sunny periods.
