Who Is This For?

  • ✓ Jaw border has softened or lost its sharpness
  • ✓ You grind or clench your teeth and notice jaw widening or pain
  • ✓ Mouth corners sit downward at rest giving a tired or sad impression
  • ✓ Chin lacks projection or balance in profile
  • ✗ Significant skin laxity as the primary concern — see Skin Laxity
  • ✗ Expecting jawline treatment to replace a skincare routine
  • ✗ You are pregnant or breastfeeding

In Short

  • Lower face concerns — jaw definition, bruxism, downturned corners, chin proportion — each require their own treatment.
  • Both dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections are used for the lower face, often in combination.
  • Masseter treatment reduces jaw width AND addresses pain and dental consequences of clenching.
  • Assessment is essential — lower face anatomy is highly individual.

The Specific Concerns

  • Softened jawline — volume changes, structural descent or anatomy.
  • Chin recession — structurally recessive chin affecting profile balance.
  • Downturned mouth corners (DAO) — the depressor anguli oris muscle pulling corners downward.
  • Pebble chin — dimpling or cobblestone texture from the mentalis muscle.
  • Bruxism and masseter hypertrophy — jaw widening, pain and headaches from habitual clenching.
  • Early jowling and marionette lines — soft tissue descending below the jaw border.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can filler sharpen a weak jawline?

Yes — well-placed HA filler along the jaw adds meaningful definition. The degree of improvement depends on individual anatomy and how much change has occurred.

What is the difference between jaw filler and masseter slimming?

Jaw filler adds structural volume and definition along the jaw border. Masseter slimming uses botulinum toxin to reduce the bulk of the masseter muscles, reducing jaw width and addressing clenching. They address different aspects and are sometimes used together.

How long does jaw filler last?

Typically 12-18 months. The jaw is a relatively mobile area so filler metabolises slightly faster than less-used areas.

Will treating my jaw affect my face symmetry?

Careful assessment and conservative dosing maintains and improves symmetry. Facial asymmetry is normal and universal — treatment aims to harmonise without introducing new imbalance.

Is masseter treatment permanent?

No. Botulinum toxin in the masseter lasts approximately 4-6 months. With repeated treatment some patients find the masseter remains slightly reduced between appointments but this is not guaranteed.
