In Short
- Dynamic lines (during movement) respond best to anti-wrinkle injections.
- Static lines (at rest) need resurfacing, skin boosters or microneedling.
- SPF 50 daily is the single most evidence-based anti-ageing step.
- Many patients benefit from a combination approach rather than one treatment alone.
What Is This Concern?
The most important distinction is between dynamic lines (formed by muscle movement, visible during expression) and static lines (visible even when the face is at rest). This distinction changes the treatment plan completely.
What Causes Them?
- Repeated muscle movement — frowning, squinting, raising the brows — gradually imprints expression patterns into the skin above.
- Collagen and elastin decline — structural proteins reduce from the mid-20s, accelerating significantly in perimenopause.
- UV damage — the most controllable driver of premature line formation and collagen breakdown.
- Volume changes — as underlying structures remodel, skin has less support and folds more easily.
Treatments That Help
For dynamic lines
Anti-wrinkle injections are the primary treatment. By temporarily reducing muscle contraction, the overlying skin has less reason to crease. Duration: 3-4 months.
For static lines and skin quality
- Microneedling — stimulates collagen; course of 3-6 sessions
- AlumierMD chemical peels — accelerate cell turnover
- Skin boosters (Profhilo, Plinest) — dermal hydration and resilience
- NeoGen PSR — deep collagen remodelling
What Will Not Help
- Fillers alone do not fix dynamic expression lines.
- No non-surgical treatment permanently eliminates deep static lines — meaningful improvement is realistic, elimination is not.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can fine lines disappear completely?
Dynamic lines improve dramatically with anti-wrinkle injections. Static lines improve meaningfully with resurfacing and skin boosters. Complete elimination of deep static lines is not a realistic expectation — significant improvement is.
At what age should I start?
When a concern consistently bothers you and treatment is clinically appropriate. SPF and medical skincare are preventative from your 20s. Injectable treatment typically becomes relevant from the mid-30s onwards.
Anti-wrinkle or microneedling for lines?
They address different types. Anti-wrinkle injections are best for expression-driven dynamic lines. Microneedling is best for surface texture and skin quality. Many patients benefit from both in the right combination.
Does retinol actually work?
Yes — there is solid evidence for topical retinol improving fine lines, texture and collagen stimulation. Medical-grade AlumierMD formulations are significantly more effective than most high-street products because of higher active concentrations.
Will anti-wrinkle injections make me look frozen?
Not with conservative dosing and good technique. The frozen look comes from excessive units. The goal is softened movement, not absent movement — you retain full expression range.
