In Short
- Crepey skin is driven by elastin loss — distinct from laxity and from surface dehydration.
- NeoGen PSR is the standout treatment and one of the only technologies able to safely treat the upper eyelid.
- Polynucleotides and Profhilo are valuable supporting treatments especially in perimenopausal patients.
- Prevention through SPF 50 and consistent skincare significantly reduces the rate of crepey change.
What Causes It?
- Elastin loss — the protein allowing skin to recoil; once significantly reduced, the skin folds and does not spring back.
- Collagen thinning — the dermis becomes structurally thinner and less dense.
- Hormonal changes — oestrogen directly supports elastin; its decline in perimenopause significantly accelerates crepey change.
- Chronic UV exposure — the primary environmental driver of elastin breakdown.
Treatments That Help
- NeoGen PSR — deep regeneration; uniquely able to treat eyelid skin
- Plinest polynucleotides — tissue repair and resilience
- Profhilo — dermal hydration and collagen and elastin stimulation
- Nanoneedling — gentle surface option for periorbital area
What Will Not Help
- Standard fillers — not appropriate for crepey texture; in delicate areas can worsen appearance.
- Moisturisers alone — support the barrier but cannot reverse elastin loss.
Your Treatment Pathway
Consultation→Elastin and tissue quality assessment→Polynucleotides or Profhilo started (tissue preparation)→NeoGen PSR course where appropriate — 1 to 3 sessions→Maintenance skincare SPF plus retinol→Annual NeoGen maintenance session
Frequently Asked Questions
Can crepey skin actually be reversed?
Meaningful improvement is achievable — NeoGen PSR stimulates deep collagen and elastin remodelling and the skin becomes noticeably more textured and resilient. Complete reversal to young skin is not realistic but significant improvement in quality and appearance is.
Is NeoGen painful?
The sensation is a warm tingling or mild prickling. Most patients find it very tolerable. Topical anaesthetic is available for sensitive patients.
How long is NeoGen recovery?
The skin bronzes over 7-14 days and the bronzed layer flakes naturally. Social downtime varies by package. Full collagen remodelling results develop over 3-6 months.
Can polynucleotides treat crepey eyelid skin?
Polynucleotides can improve the quality and resilience of periorbital skin. For upper eyelid crepiness, NeoGen PSR is the primary treatment of choice — it is one of the few technologies that can safely treat that area.
How many NeoGen sessions are needed?
One session produces noticeable improvement. A course of three produces the most significant results, spaced 6-8 weeks apart.
