In Short
- Laxity is a tissue concern — loose, less resilient skin and underlying structures — distinct from volume loss.
- NeoGen PSR is the most effective non-surgical treatment for laxity at Blue Bird Aesthetics.
- Filler is not the right answer for laxity and can over time make it worse.
- Prevention through SPF, retinol and polynucleotides is far easier than reversal.
What Causes It?
- Elastin loss — the protein that allows skin to recoil after stretching; once significantly reduced, skin does not spring back.
- Collagen thinning — the dermis becomes thinner and structurally less dense.
- Hormonal changes — oestrogen decline in perimenopause significantly accelerates structural skin change.
- Ligament laxity — facial ligaments loosen with age, allowing tissue to descend.
Treatments That Help
- NeoGen PSR — deep plasma-energy collagen remodelling
- Profhilo Structura — for early laxity alongside skin quality
- Polynucleotides (Plinest) — tissue repair and resilience
What Will Not Help — Important
- Fillers alone — adding volume to sagging tissue adds weight to a compromised structure. Not a primary laxity treatment.
- Standard skin boosters — improve quality but do not tighten tissue structurally.
For significant skin laxity, surgical options remain the most effective interventions. Dr Halliday will be direct if your concern is beyond the realistic reach of non-surgical treatment.
Your Treatment Pathway
Consultation→Laxity severity assessment→NeoGen course — 1 to 3 sessions→Polynucleotide and skincare support→SPF and retinol foundation→Maintenance review at 12 months
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most effective non-surgical treatment for loose skin?
NeoGen PSR is the most effective technology we offer for genuine skin laxity. It stimulates deep collagen remodelling using nitrogen plasma energy — addressing the structural tissue changes at a level most other technologies cannot reach.
Can fillers lift sagging skin?
A small amount of well-placed filler can subtly improve contour but does not address the underlying tissue laxity. Over time, heavy filler in descending tissue can worsen the situation. Filler alone is not a laxity treatment.
How does NeoGen differ from radiofrequency tightening?
NeoGen uses nitrogen plasma energy, which creates a different biological response from electrical radiofrequency or HIFU. NeoGen can treat the upper eyelid — something neither RF nor HIFU can safely address.
How many NeoGen sessions are needed?
Results are meaningful from a single session. Courses of three produce the best outcomes, spaced 6-8 weeks apart.
At what point should I consider surgery?
When the skin laxity is significant enough that the realistic improvement from non-surgical treatment would not achieve a satisfactory outcome for you. Dr Halliday will be direct about this and can provide appropriate referral guidance.
